BTJ-15 total station gyroscope
Gyroscope, or gyro, is one of the most commonly used surveying equipments in the world. It is often seen in underground construction projects such as coal mining, tunnel drilling, and subway construction.
As a brand product of Beijing Institute of Space Launch Technology, a branch of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), BTJ series of gyroscopes were formerly used for initial directing and orientation for missile launching.
BTJ-15 gyro station is a combination of a BTJ gyroscope and a total station. The latter is usually a Leica TS06 2", one with sound reputation worldwide.
With a neutral, rapidly rotating gyroscope suspended inside the instrument, high accuracy is achieved with the BTJ-15 irrespective of the Earth's magnetic field. The gyroscope axis oscillates around geographic north as a result of the interaction of the gyro rotation, gravitational pull and the Earth's rotation. This enables a special electro-optical scanning system determine fully automatically where true north is with the utmost accuracy. It works fast-it takes no longer than 8 minutes to achieve a one-directional measurement with the accuracy of 15".
Unlike traditional gyroscopes, BTJ-15 is fully automatic. By pressing of a few keys, the rest will be done all by itself. It does not need the help of a compass to find the near-north direction, which is normally required for traditional apparatuses. It can work irrespective of weather condition, and it doesn't need to provide the known points.
